Body Systems-Respiratory System

7th Grade PACE
Web Quest-Respiration and the Respiratory System
Students will describe the structures and functions of the respiratory system, explain how and why breathing happens, analyze the relationship between the respiratory system and the cardiovascular system, and identify two respiratory disorders.
Utilization of the smartBoard and Internet will assist the students in mastering the aim and the objectives of the lesson. The technological design of the lesson challenges them to go beyond what is expected from the National Standards, and to enjoy themselves while they learn. Student deliverable for teacher assessment will be a power-point presentation designed to show acquisition of information.

Editing for More Effective Verbs Using Microsoft Word
How can we convey our ideas more clearly using stronger verbs?

Students will clarify the meaning and feeling of their writing pieces by incorporating strong verbs, using imaginative and descriptive vocabulary and eliminating words that are overused or unnecessary
Students will use the thesaurus in Microsoft Word to search for stronger verbs. The thesaurus makes it easy for students to improve the words they use in their writing. Students will watch the teacher model the process with the teacher's computer and the LCD projector. Students appreciate the authenticity of this revising lesson. In the real world we use MS Word tools to vary the words in our emails, letters, papers, etc.

Circumerence/Diameter Ratio
Math 6.1 & 7.2
Using Geometer's Sketchpad and Using Smartboard resources
Students will be able to use GSP to identify the Circumference/Diameter Ratio.
Students will be able to use GSP to quickly calculate the Circumference and diameter of multiple circles and then plot the values on a coordinate grid. Once points are plotted, students will see that the points from a linear function and that Circumference/Diameter will always equal 3.14159...

Using Geometer’s SketchPad to Chart and Graph Patterns
Graphing patterns and connecting the multiple representations (equation/rule, geometric pattern, graph, and table) using Geometer’s SketchPad.
1) Allows students to manipulate the visual representation of a linear function. 2) Allows students to move at their own pace. 3) Students can get to the thinking faster because the technology can do the work of drawing and students can begin analyzing and focusing on the rationale and procedure.
